Fr. Jon Braun outlines steps on how to grow from a small group or church to attaining mission status with the Bishop.

BJ-22-02     Parish Growth Through Small Groups - 1994
The most successful churches have organized small groups for support and growth.

BJ-22-03     Starting a Mission with Orthodox Christians
In this motivational talk, Fr. Jon Braun enjoins a mission to  1) State your vision.  2) Everyone should get catechized.  3) Learn to do the services well.  4) The priest must not do everything.

BJ-22-04     The 5 Most Important Things I Learned in Starting Missions
A continuation of BJ-22-03.  1) Know where you are going.  2) Must do the services well.  3) Let the mystery work.  4) Priest must be the leader.  5) Must have contact with people.

Fr. George Dragas

DG-22-01     Icons for Evangelism: Ss. Cyril and Methodius
This scholarly challenge shows the model of evangelism used by Saints Cyril and Methodius to take the gospel to the Slavs in the 9th Century.  This model was based on the Apostles, Scripture, and Tradition.  An outstanding message!

DG-22-02     Icons for Evangelism: Cosmos the Atolian
This message gives great insights into the struggles of the Church under Moslem rule in the East and the doctrinal aberrations in the West during the last 1000 years.  Fr. George Dragas explains how St. Cosmos evangelized Albania and Greece in the 18th century.

DG-22-03     Our Task Today in Missions and Evangelism
Fr. George Dragas draws on the church fathers to challenge us with evangelism in the way of the Apostles to bring the light of Christ to all men.  Inspiring!

Fr. John Finley

FJ-22-01     Building a Mission from Ground Zero
This is a personal and piercing challenge.  Fr. John advocates  1) Getting rid of the convert (cradle vs. Convert Christians) mentality which divides people.  2) Orthodoxy is not one of the choices for a church - Christ is building One Church.  3) Get rid of the jesting and good old boys club and instead encourage one another.

FJ-22-02     Spiritual Formation of Missions
To build a mission we need to set our own personal house in order.  First we should not be a slave to finances.  Get out of debt.  We can't bring America to the Orthodox faith if we don't love America.  Fr. John Finley draws on the four things we have in America as recounted by his Bishop.  In America we have Human rights, Opportunity, Freedom and Beauty.  This is a touching message.  Very inspirational!

Fr. Peter Gillquist

GP-22-01     Starting a Mission with Orthodox Christians - 1994

Fr. Peter outlines basic practical steps you can take to organize and begin a new mission.

Fr. Michael Oleksa

OM-22-01     Case Study in Orthodox Evangelism:  The Conversion of Alaska - 1998
For Christians, harmony with all creation is restored in Christ.  This lecture explains how the Orthodox missionaries transformed the Alaskan culture from pagan to Christian without destroying the culture as happened in the lower 48 states.  Fr. Michael Oleksa is a great story teller and weaves teaching with entertainment to get across his points.  Highly recommended.

OM-22-02     What We Can Learn from Alaska for Evangelizing Modern America - 1998
Fr. Michael Oleksa draws on the history of the evangelization of Alaska to show that:  1) Mission work is the work of the laity.  2) Courage in the face of opposition is essential.  3) Personal holiness or piety will draw people to you.  4) Humility wins the most conflicts.  5) St. Innocent says prayer is the means - it is essential.

Fr. John Reeves

RJ-22-01     Helping an Ethnic Parish Grow - 1994
How to turn the strength of an ethnic parish into a plan for outreach and ministry.

RJ-22-02     A Game Plan for Parish Growth - 1994
Practical steps from a pastor on involving people and getting them to enjoy it.

RJ-22-03     Selling Evangelism to a Reluctant Parish
Church growth threatens the current power structure.  This is a practical application of principles taken from the letters to the seven churches in the book of Revelation.  To have church growth we must  1) Fall in love with our Lord Jesus,  2) Have convictions that Jesus is the difference between heaven and hell,  3) Define the vision for your church.
