Fr. Peter Gillquist


Fr. Peter Gillquist is an Orthodox priest in the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America and an ex-Protestant minister with Campus Crusade for Christ.  He is the Chairman of the Department of Missions and Evangelism.   He has forty years of ministry as a Bible teacher and Evangelist, fifteen as an Orthodox priest.  He is the author of numerous books including Becoming Orthodox and was the Project Director for the Orthodox Study Bible, New Testament. While traveling extensively to raise up and oversee new Orthodox Missions across the US, Fr. Peter and his wife, Marilyn, make their home in Santa Barbara, CA.

Fr. Peter says that the college campus is the most important ministry the Orthodox Church has right now.  He tells of the successful Orthodox Campus Fellowship (OCF) at Penn State University. One of the students who came from that campus, Matt Ghroh is beginning his own preaching ministry on the campus at University of Illinois-Chicago. His testimony is exciting to hear.  This is an exciting message to listen to and pass on to college students and their parents.

Are we really surrounded by a cloud of witnesses?  Who are they?  A great Bible study.

GP-30-02     Why Does the Church Have Liturgy?

This is a wonderful explanation of why the church has always been liturgical in its worship, even in the first century.  He uses scripture to show these truths.

GP-30-03     Are Icons Idols?

Orthodox Christians do not worship icons, they actually help keep us from idolatry.  Icons are "window to heaven."  They show us that The Lord Jesus Christ and the saints of heaven are present.  This message also explains the imagery of Exodus 20 and 25 when God forbids making a graven image.

GP-30-04     What About Tradition? / What's So Special About Mary?

Tradition is the major hurdle for Protestants. Fr Peter explains how the Apostle Paul uses tradition in the New Testament.  Protestants seem to be afraid of Mary in response to Roman Catholic teachings. Here are some valid reasons to consider Mary as someone to be honored.
