Sin
& Reconciliation
18
- Sin
Presented at a Clergy retreat February 1998 by Archimandrite
Daniel Griffith, this series of talks is not milk - it is meat!
They were to clergy and are not intended for the general church public. It
is definitely not for those new to the faith. Listener discretion is advised.
These tapes must be listened to in order. Each session
builds on the last.
GD-18-01 Sin & reconciliation - Introduction
How does the church approach the ministry of reconciliation? To answer this
Fr. Daniel spends the next 10 hours discussing the historical teachings of the church.
On tape one he talks about the church canons, and a brief history of the church.
GD-18-02 The Fall & It's Repercussions
What was the condition of Adam in Paradise? What are the 12 marks of corruption
on man? What three things did God have to provide in the Garden of Eden to save man?
What about those passions?
GD-18-03 Baptism & Salvation from Sin and Death
Human sexuality is not transcendent; it is made necessary by the fall. How
does the Church view sex in marriage? At the incarnation, The Word restored to humanity
more than Adam lost. Our senses can become spiritualized. The resurrection can be
experienced now. How does asceticism affect our church life?
GD-18-04 Sins After Baptism: Exomologisis
& Exagorevsis - Part One
GD-18-05 Sins After Baptism: Part One (continued)
When we put on Christ, we are freed from sin but restored to the pre-fall state.
At baptism, existence ends and life begins. It is heresy that sin is a necessary part
of our life. Sins committed outside the church are less serious than those inside the
church. Sins committed after baptism should be repented with tears. We are to judge
those inside the church, not outside the church. Confession is the means of being forgiven.
What are serious sins?
GD-18-06 Sins After Baptism: Exomologisis
& Exagorevsis - Part Two
GD-18-07 Sins After Baptism: Part Two (continued)
How do baptism and chrismation differ? What are sins unto death? What
are the major sins and how they affect the church. Also there is a great discussion of
penance - the length of a penance for several types of sins and reconciliation.
GD-18-08 Practical Applications of the Insights
Gained
GD-18-09 Practical Applications of the Insights Gained (continued)
When should one not confess? What is a person under penance to do in the church
service? It is the church who binds and looses not just the clergy. How does the
priest go about a confession in order to help a confessor to reveal their thoughts? Also
on these tapes are many very practical applications of reconciliation.
Archimandrite Daniel Griffith gave
this series of lectures/discussions to priests and deacons February 1999. This is not light
theology. This is not recommended for those new to the faith.. This is practical
counsel for all clergy and very dedicated lay people. The discussion centers on why there is
a priesthood, then moves to priest's behavior in life in general and in fulfilling the role of
priest before the altar, with his parishioners, and his bishop. This
series of talks is not milk - it is meat!
These tapes
must be listened to in order.
