Fr. Thomas Hopko
13 - SalvationHT-13-01 The Meaning of the Cross Fr. Thomas explains how Christ fulfills through the cross the offices of prophet, priest and king. The mystery of the cross perfects the original design of God for mankind. He explains the different types of love, charity, mercy, affection and relates them to their proper patterns as expressions of the Godhead. This is teaching filled with stark and agonizing contrasts. It serves up a good measure of sanity about such current concerns as self-esteem, abandonment, hatred, self-loathing and multiple personalities. "The Meaning of the Cross" is really a mini-course worthy of being mined again and again. 20 - Ecclesiology36 - Teaching Truth to YouthHT-36-01 Children: What is Important? Best for children 7-12 years. Fr. Thomas is speaking to/with children and explains some basics about some patron saints, and discusses what Jesus said was the most important thing to do. That is to love God and your neighbor. Poor sound quality. 42 - Healing
HT-42-01/04 Spiritual Sickness and Healing This CD album is made of the three different talks bellow on this subject. It was edited and compiled from these talks given in the 1980's. HT-42-03 Most Essential Healing Because Christ is victorious over death and is present in the Church, His healing power remains even to today. But his promises are for the healing of the soul, but not always the body. 43 - Marriage44 - FamilyHT-44-01 The Family and The Spiritual
Life Fr. Thomas Hopko discusses the theology of the family; what is it supposed to be according to what Jesus and the saints have stated. Discussion of child rearing, forgiveness, counseling, abuses, and bringing up children who will love the Lord and His Church. 51 - Suffering
HT-51-01
This talk was given on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. What is the place of suffering in the earth? 60 - Spiritual LifeHT-60-01 Victorious Living in a
Godless World - 1994 This is like a primer on the Christian life. Specifically covers salvation, prayer, scripture and how they relate to life. These messages are a great encouragement to those who want to live according to Christ's teaching.
This is a "State of the Union" address for American Christians. This very frank message, in three parts, discusses many of our problems and how they affect individuals, families and churches. Fr. Thomas shows how the gospel of Christ can overcome these problems. Very practical. A good message to listen to often. “Sometimes it is good to go back to the very basic things and take a look at them again” - Fr Thomas Hopko The purpose of this teaching is to review in thesis form what is the essence of the Orthodox World View.
What Fr Thomas presents are the essential dogmas of the church. They are unassailable, undebatable points of Christian Orthodoxy. This is a very frank message to Orthodox Christians. 1. Go to church. 2. Pray and 3. Remember God. It is a simple formula and one which Fr Thomas expounds on for four hours. These talks were given in the early 1990’s and edited in 2009. 63 - Spiritual Warfare
HT-63-01 Spiritual sickness is healed with spiritual warfare. Our victory has already been won by the work of Jesus Christ but we are still live in a world of strife. Our own warfare is the way we claim this victory. Fr. Thomas defines this struggle and tells us how to engage in this struggle on a daily and hourly basis. 65 - Maturity
HT-65-01 The Place of Gratitude in the Christian Life - November 2004 - 92 min Fr. Thomas says, “Gratitude is life and if a person is ungrateful, they are dead. The content of life in the Christian view is perpetual gratitude in and for everyone and everything in all circumstances, particularly in afflictions and in suffering.” Then he goes on to say that this is so and why it is so. 80 - IconsThese two cassettes give a good foundation on the churches teaching on icons. 82 - MaryHT-82-01 Mary: The Great Example This message explains what the church has taught about Mary, since the first century and through the ages. The Eastern traditions and Western variations are examined. A question and answer session is included. Both tapes should be ordered together. 83 - Men & Women85 - Modern Era90 - Knowing and Loving GodHT-90-01 What Do the Orthodox Claim
About Knowing God? The center of all human life in the knowledge of God. God is knowable by man because He has revealed Himself to us. This fact is unique in all religion and is possible only through the revelation of God through His Son Jesus, the Christ. 94 - Prayer
“Prayer is an active life. Prayer is the conscious, purposeful, intentional act through which we are united fully and completely with God for the purpose of being a divine life.” “The essence of prayer is ‘not my will but Your will be done. ’Life is the conscious communion with God for every second, with every thought.” - Fr Thomas Hopko The first message answers the questions about prayer, To whom do we pray? Why do we pray? And what is prayer? The second message tells how we pray. This includes the three main areas of prayer used by Christians for 2000 years. This is the prayer of the Divine Liturgy, the personal rule of prayer for each individual and the constant, unceasing prayer of the heart. Fr Thomas explains how each of these is unique yet dependant on each other for a healthy life. This series is intense, very informative and
practical. Copyright © [Orthodox Christian Cassettes, Inc.] All
