Chopping Blocks

Our grandson Quentin, 18mo, standing on Cutting Board

This is my grandson Quentin, 18 months old. He is proudly standing on a Super Block Cutting Board.

These wooden Chopping Block Cutting Boards are great for any kitchen, home or professional. We use one for our own home kitchen. These crosses are made in my Arkansas wood shop where we make the Conciliar Press literature racks. We use solid lumber, hand rubbed oil finish. Our blocks are made from Maple, Walnut, or Cherry.

Also, we occasionally entertain special orders. Contact Us We would love to share these beautiful and functional chopping blocks with you and your family.

Caring for your Chopping Block

Maple is naturally antiseptic. It is fine for most food items but it is best to not cut raw meat on wood cutting boards.

After each use, just wipe the board with warm soapy water and rinse and dry. Once a week the cutting board will benefit from a light application of oil. The best oil is boiled linseed oil which is available in most hardware and paint stores. Just apply a few drops and rub in, let it set for 30 minutes then wipe off with a dry cloth. You can also use a good vegetable oil, but the linseed oil will prevent stains and keep out moisture better than anything else.

End grain cutting boards work better than any other types of cutting boards because each time the knife cuts through the food it actually goes into the wood. This makes the cutting easier because the knife goes past the top of the cutting surface. The blade goes between the fibers without cutting them as it does in laminated cutting board. Because  the knife doesn't cut the wood it will stay sharp longer.

After several years of use a shallow depression will develop in the middle of the cutting surface. If this becomes a problem, the top can be easily flattened with a few minutes work with a belt sander. Then after a few oil treatments it will be as good as new.
